Ruminating on “round like a comic or cartoon” - my take (just based on the snippet of the interview you posted) is that a cartoon or a comic (in one frame or a series of frames) is telling a succinct and complete story. The way she wrote her chapters sounds akin to this to me - like round in the sense of “whole” or “complete”.

All I could think of with the word ‘round’ was a rounded off Family Circus cartoon 😂 but I think you’re correct.
