I don’t want to calculate how much money I’ve spent on kids goggles this summer…. They get left behind, chewed on and ripped, tossed around for monkey in the middle… whew.

Ruminating on “round like a comic or cartoon” - my take (just based on the snippet of the interview you posted) is that a cartoon or a comic (in one frame or a series of frames) is telling a succinct and complete story. The way she wrote her chapters sounds akin to this to me - like round in the sense of “whole” or “complete”.
