Happy November! I hope you had a nice Halloween. I feel like I am still recovering! This weekend I’m taking down the Halloween spiders, and searching for my 11 year old’s trombone.
(This comic is from Cup of Jo last month.)
The night before the first middle school band performance, it seems that maybe the trombone was taken out of the back seat of the car. Or left somewhere? Or abducted by UFO’s? Unclear. But it’s gone, which is unfortunate because it’s pricey, and the school-issued trombone that he is now using sounds much, much worse. I have been conducting a Facebook marketplace search for the trombone—very vigilante, very unsuccessful. It’s impossible to have a serious conversation about this because talking about this situation inevitably makes you repeat the word ‘trombone’ a million times. Here’s a sample script:
Friend: Grace, how’s the trombone search going?
Me: The trombone’s still gone.
Friend: Do you think it was stolen? Who would steal a trombone?
Me: I don’t know. Maybe the trombone was just left somewhere (say, outside the middle school).
Friend: How do you lose a trombone?? Maybe you can claim it in your homeowner’s or car insurance…
Me [eyes glazing over]: Yessssss… That sounds fun.
Friend: Did you own the trombone?
Me: It was a rent-to-own trombone, so.
Friend: Wow, I can’t believe it! How do you lose a trombone?
END SCENE
So the search continues.

I’m still working on the next chapter of my coaching experience, but here is a funny conversation from earlier this week.
Yikes! Can you imagine not knowing the ending of ‘Finding Nemo’?

In other Weekend Mom news, I love this literary hat! I also finally read the book Carrie Soto is Back. It was a lovely read! Last night I got my family to watch Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story and it was fascinating. It’s not really about soccer, mostly CSI: Instagram. And that’s about it for this week! Hopefully next week I’ll be back with the coaching diaries. Have a nice Sunday!
Feel like my parents would've happily made me give up the trombone if I lost mine, you're such a good, persevering, trombone vigilante MOM! <3
