Oh hi! Happy Tuesday. I hope you had a nice long weekend. I watched my 8 year old Russ play in a soccer tournament, which was great except it felt like we were sitting on the surface of the sun. One game was at 5pm, and it was definitely over 100 degrees. He had a lot of fun, though, and it’s exciting to watch him do something he enjoys. At the games this weekend there were a couple of coaches who mostly spoke in Spanish to their players, and, as a college Spanish major, I just loved this. I kept a list on my phone of phrases I heard: “¡Tranquilo!” “¡Largo!” “¡Zapatos rápidos!”

So, on to this newsletter! I haven't done an update in a year! Yikes! But I guess that’s true to the Weekend Mom/Lady vibe: she *might* get around to doing something. My two pieces of cartooning news are that there is a new Mom’s Family Calendar out and that I am working on a graphic memoir of med school and residency.
In terms of creative inspo, I enjoyed reading this interview with Kurt Vonnegut (the link was in a recent NYT article).
And, finally, I found this rumination on childhood books forgotten post in my drafts section from last year! I was intrigued that last year I was also doing a series of evening shifts right before back-to-school night and blathering about soccer!

Happy Friday! Tonight I’m at the hospital, but this weekend I’m looking forward to youth soccer ⚽️ ! Care to reminisce about YA reads of our youth with me?
Thanks for following along with this meandering newsletter. Hoping to update more often this year. ⚽️⚽️⚽️
